Katy Perry wants to take time out of showbiz spotlight

Katy Perry says she will “go into hiding” after she has finished promoting her new fly-on-the-wall film.

The 27-year-old pop star was speaking at the premiere of Katy Perry: Part of Me in Los Angeles, where she wowed fans on the red carpet dressed in a strapless red velvet prom dress with matching heels and lipstick.

The Wide Awake singer, whose 14-month marriage to British actor and comedian Russell Brand broke down during the filming of the 3D documentary, told reporters she wants to take time out from showbiz to concentrate on writing new material.

"I'm going into hiding. I want to go and write songs in the woods or something,” she said. "I'm gonna unplug, take my hair extensions out, feel my head again. I'm gonna unplug and recharge, if that makes any sense."

In the film, which follows Perry on her California Dreams tour, the star talks candidly about her relationship with Brand, revealing that he may have felt threatened by her skyrocketing career.

"I thought to myself, 'When I find that person that's going to be my life partner, I won't ever have to choose (between the partner and my career). They won't be threatened or have weird motives.' Then I started to realise, that's not true,” she says.

Perry is now dating Florence + the Machine guitarist Rob Ackroyd but says she did everything she could to make her marriage work.

The singer defended her decision to include footage of emotional scenes where she cries over the marriage split, saying: "I think if you were to see the movie and it was completely avoided, you’d think, 'Hmm that’s strange, I know something else happened in her life last year'.

"So I wanted to handle it delicately and show, I’m going through the same situation that half of America goes through and somehow I landed on my feet, so you don’t have to lie down and die like you think."
