Major Lazer

Major Lazer Lyrics and Profile

Los Angeles-based record producer Thomas Wesley Pentz - better known as Diplo - created the electronic dancehall music group Major Lazer, releasing its first album in 2009.

Originally comprised of four members including Diplo, Jillionaire, Walshy Fire and English DJ Switch, Major Lazer waved goodbye to Switch at the end of 2011. The remaining three members of the group have since released two more full-length albums, Free the Universe in 2013 and Peace Is the Mission in 2015, with their music described by critics as an eclectic mix of reggae, dancehall, house and electronic.

Alongside the three albums, Major Lazer also released Apocalypse Soon, a March 2014 EP which featured big hitters such as Sean Paul and Pharrell Williams. A popular name at music festivals, Major Lazer has performed at the famous Coachella Music Festival, Chicago’s Pitchfork Music Festival, San Francisco’s Outside Lands festival and Australia’s acclaimed Falls Music & Arts Festival.

A single, Hold the Line, from the group’s first album, Guns Don't Kill People... Lazers Do, gained much recognition when its accompanying video was nominated in the Breakthrough Video category of the MTV Video Awards.

Over the last few years, Major Lazer has been hard at work producing UK singer Rita Ora's debut album, Ora, as well as working alongside the band No Doubt on Push and Shove, their sixth studio album. Walshy Fire revealed earlier this year that the group’s fourth studio album will be released either late this year or early next year and will be entitled Music Is the Weapon. The album is said to include a track featuring Selah Sue, a soul/funk fusion singer-songwriter based in Belgium.
