Country singer and television presenter Blake Shelton was born in Ada, Oklahoma in 1976. He learned to play the guitar at the age of 12 and wrote his first song when he was just 15. Blake grew up the son of a used car dealer and a beauty salon owner. The youngest of three, Blake lost his older brother in 1990 in a car accident. Determined to pursue a singing career, Blake moved to Nashville, Tennessee aged 17.

Blake signed to Giant Records in 2001 but the company folded soon after the release of his debut single, ‘Austin.’ The singer was transferred to parent company Warner Bros and his record spent five weeks in the top spot of Billboard Hot Country Tracks chart. His self-titled debut album was released in the same year.

Between 2002 and 2009 Blake became a prolific recording artist, releasing four albums: ‘The Dreamer,’ ‘Blake Shelton’s Barn and Grill’ ‘Pure BS’ and ‘Startin Fires'. The records earned Blake four number one singles in the country charts and ‘The Dreamer’ and ‘Blake Shelton’s Barn and Grill’ were both certified Gold in America.

He married girlfriend Kaynette Gern in 2003 but divorced three years later after meeting country singer Miranda Lambert. The couple married in May 2011, but announced they had split in July 2015.

In 2011 Shelton began working as a judge on television series The Voice, appearing as a judge on three series of the singing competition. In July 2011 Blake released ‘Red River Blue’ featuring the single, ‘Honey Bee'.’ The track went on to set a record for the fastest Gold certification for a male country singer.

On January 8 2013, Blake released ‘Sure Be Cool If You Did’, lead single for his eighth album ‘Based on a True Story’, which came out in March of the same year. The following year he released ‘Bringin Back the Sunshine’, which debuted at number one the Billboard 200 chart.
