Tim McGraw

Tim McGraw Lyrics and Profile

Longstanding country-musician Tim McGraw grew up in Start, Louisiana with mother Betty D’Angostino and step-father Horace Smith. Born Samuel Timothy McGraw in 1967, Tim grew up believing he was the son of Smith. Aged 11 he discovered that baseball player Tug McGraw was his biological father, though Tug refused to accept Tim as his son until he was 18.

McGraw spent his childhood playing competitive sports at school and didn’t learn to play guitar or sing until he began his studies at the University of Louisiana. He dropped out in 1989 to pursue a musical career. His self-titled debut album made little impact on the charts, but single, ‘Welcome to the Club’ had some success. His second album ‘Not a Moment too Soon’ earned McGraw his first number one, with ‘Don’t Tell the Girl.’

Over the next two decades McGraw released a string of number one singles and a further 13 albums, with each release debuting at number one. In 2000 his ‘Greatest Hits’ album topped the charts for nine weeks, selling 6 million copies and cementing McGraw's reputation as a much-loved country singer-songwriter.

McGraw met Faith Hill in 1996 when she performed as a supporting artist on his Spontaneous Combustion Tour. The couple married in October of the same year and have three daughters together. McGraw and Hill have duetted together on a number of Faith’s albums and in 2000 their ‘Soul2Soul’ tour played to sell-out audiences.

His 2013 album, ‘Two Lanes of Freedom’ was released under Big Machine Records in February of that year. The album features singles, ‘One of Those Nights’ and ‘Truck Yeah’ and charted at number two. In 2014 he released his thirteenth album, ‘Sundown Heaven Town’, which received positive reviews from critics.

McGraw has also won acclaim through acting, having worked on 2006 film ‘Flicka’ and appearing in 2009 film ‘The Blind Side’ as Sandra Bullock’s husband. He has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
