Around 400 people turned up to a bone marrow drive in New York on Sunday (18 July) to sign up as donors in attempt of keeping the young Tavarez hope's alive.

The actress played the young Nala in Broadway musical The Lion King. She was diagnosed with Acute Leukaemia in April this year and she needs a bone marrow transplant to survive.

Rihanna, together with fellow R&B star Alicia Keys, have made public appeals to raise awareness of the campaign among their fans.

‘Tavarez should be performing on Broadway but is confined to her bed, fighting for her life,’ said Rihanna. ‘She needs to find a bone marrow donor to survive. I urge all my fans to register as donors. It’s the most beautiful thing someone could do, to give the gift of life.’

Rihanna is currently on her Last Girl on Earth tour in the US, but cancellations are going around and Rihanna has yet to make any comment about it.

Eminem’s latest single featuring Rihanna, Love The Way You Lie, is also expected to hit the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the US. The duet is included in Recovery, which the music video will be released soon and it has been the most-downloaded song for three consecutive weeks.

According to the New York Daily News, friends of the couple first suspected they would ‘not work out’ at the wedding of model Janelle Fishman, who’s Katy Perry’s friend.
