Modern Day Midas - Kid at 28

The doctors gave me three more years or so
I hope in time I learn to let things go
I'm in a clearer state of mind than I've ever been
When all I want to do is drown my sins
I hope that boy I knew is in a better place
I heard a choir lost some things she can't replace
I hope that they are living without regret
And not dying looking for the best place to drink and forget

And I swear, this is it. This could be the last one that I get
But if I live past the point I'm meant to die it better be for something
Not just having had survived

Where I'm at is just the strangest place
Caught between the gravestones and the wedding rings
I'm thankful to still have my mom and dad
As I learn to be kinder to my past
And every kid I know has made mistakes
And I was still a kid at twenty eight
I never thought I'd live to be this old
I hope time has brought some wisdom because I'm feeling a little bold

And I swear, this is it. This could be the last one that I get
But if I live past the point I'm meant to die it better be for something
Not just having had survived
