Paul Sadler - The Familiar
Though we may cast our villains to the other side of the world
Though we may turn away from the demon that hides in the folds
Still we must cast a shadow that stalks and devours
It becomes an old familiar
No-one else must see him
No-one else can walk in the fire
Though we may travel to untold corners of paradise
Though we may drown our senses in vast swathes of green, blue and gold
We'll never lose this beast hibernating in our DNA
This black familiar
No-one else must see him
No-one else can walk in the fire
No-one else can banish this devil that hides in the mirror
Though we flee in travels in
This blood that flows under the skin
Though we may fly into the sun
The beast resides in everyone
After all has come to pass
This masquerade can never last
As long as earth remains a sphere
You never will outrun your fears
Until the end
No-one must unpeel the flesh
No-one must remove this cold neutrality
It's easier to externalise this creature than reveal our own duality
Everyone can see him
Everyone is walking in my fire
No-one else can banish this devil that grins in the mirror
Though we flee in travels in
This blood that flows under the skin
Though we may fly into the sun
The beast resides in everyone
After all has come to pass
This masquerade can never last
As long as earth remains a sphere
You never will outrun your fears
Onwards to eternity, we cast our souls into the sea
But left to dry under the sun
The beast returns to everyone
Until we die
