David John Morris - Steadfast

There was one
I thought would never be
A friend or a brother to me
Loggerheads
We almost had a fight
He got more gruff
And I got more polite
Rubbing shoulders
Cooking every day
I'd apologise for being in the way
Tensions rose
And tethers slowly frayed
Didn't realise they were starting to braid
We both
Walked in
To the waterfall
Ice cold
I slipped
And began to fall
I told him that
I panic quite a lot
When I'm not sure if someone's angry or not
He said he was
But that it was not with me
Something that I always find it hard to believe
Then I gave up
Trying to make friends
Didn't venture in so he didn't defend
This felt right
For me and true to him
Space opened up; love started to swim
We both
Walked in
To the waterfall
Ice cold
I slipped
And began to fall
But he
Reached out
And he steadied me
We laughed
Steadfast
And boundlessly
