Everyday Avatar - Corridor 34
My evening stroll
Against protocol
This is where I get my sense of self
Slip away
As they kneel to pray
No one comes down this way anymore
Sparks and missing bolts guide muscle memory
Past doors long sealed shut
Spy the sensors and the flickering screens
Long disconnected
can't pick me up
Hope is planning for the future
Interpreting the past
Achievement in the present needs
A focus on the task
Scratched metal bent
Unscrew the vent
Janitor five proudly showed to me
Only eight years strong
Had tagged alone
Desperate to escape my list of chores
Learning hiding places, haven from patrols
Also I absorbed
How the filters clean the air and keep us safe
Lessons not ignored
Hope is planning for the future
Safely unobserved
What sustains us in the present
We surely must preserve
Through the vent I crawl
Exploring while I can
Find a long forgotten room
Disks and reels, machines, recordings of the fall
Is this dead memories or a tomb?
Forget planning for the future
Time can move too fast
To truly understand the present
I must know the past
