Brooke Ashton - Tried and True

This guitar of mine has weathered so well
Been scuffed around
And the strings worn out
With every story that I tell

Should I lay my head to weep oh it wakes me up and it sings to me
Reminding me of what I was born to do
Yeah this guitar of mine is tried and true

My Mama was and is the first to hear my cry
My Daddy gave me the moon and kept my dreams all alive

They know the light and they've seen the dark
And they battle on with their golden hearts
My Mom and Daddy are livin' proof
Of what it means to be tried and stay true

I'm married now I got a daughter of my own
I've not known a joy quite like watching her grow
Hey we've been dealt and ugly card
The days they are long and the nights they are hard

And I hope when she looks back on her youth
She sees her Dad and I were tried and we stayed true

I hope when I make it to the other side
I can stand on my two feet there at the finish line
I will look a loving God in the eyes and say I tried
When I was tried, to be like you
To stay true

This guitar of mine has weathered so well
