Jake Bartolin - Ghosts in My Town

If I focus real hard I picture my first day like a postcard
Freshmen Jake who know world, thought he was so smart
Classroom, sittin' in the back of room
The doofus dude who's duping dudes with the Rubik's cube
Next to me, Tucker sit's so casually
And Brandon's to my left, he's working so quietly
Girl across the room I've got a thing for
She's nice, but she knows it for sure
Her best friend fuckin' hates me

Then there's the kid who's always late
A Mickey T-shirt on the teacher who's really big into Disney
And Another kid keeps dropin' books on the floor
The bell rings and I'm out the door
Every now and then this picture replays
And every time there's one more layer of haze
I hear the speech, the speaker's gone, yet the podium stays
I'll I'm left with is the echo's of sound
Somebody save me from the ghosts in my town

These voices ring off the schoolhouse halls
There's memories here, but they never call
That eerie chill, that fading laugh
That certain smell that will take me back

These thoughts compound within my head
Whispers of words long since said
Seems every time I turn around
Catch fading words from the ghosts in my town

Now as the years roll past
Trade science and math for chorus class
Drum major's cute, full of too much sass
I met a life long friend, played guitar until my fingers bled
Made an album together that wasn't good
I read a lot of books about music, lyrics, pop
Trying to hear all the subtle differences while switchin' up my preferences
Man, I was hangin' out with my friends ex
'Cause I'll my other friends had already moved on to what's next

Now the cute girl dropped book drop kid
And the late kid was never late again
But now and then I hear their name's brought up in conversation
It's like a pop hits station
Names repeated across a population
I'm getting tired of this noise in my ear
And every summer all their ghosts reappear
It's like their takin' their time to remind me of the days
The sun was so bright
Not trapped behind layers of haze

These voices ring off the schoolhouse halls
There's memories here, but they never call
That eerie chill, that fading laugh
That certain smell that will take me back

These thoughts compound within my head
Whispers of words long since said
Seems every time I turn around
Catch fading words from the ghosts in my town

These voices ring off the schoolhouse halls (Whoa)
There's memories here, but they never call (Whoa)
Seems every time I turn around (Whoa)
Catch fading words from the ghosts in my town (Whoa)

Seems every time I turn around
Catch fading words from the ghosts in my town
