Tim Patterson - Heartland

I recall the lilacs in the springtime
The old wallflowers beneath the window pane
The sweeping weeping willow sleeping on the garden shed
Takes me home to the Heartland once again

I recall those Sundays in the sunshine
Tea and chocolate biscuits on the lawn
Sleeping in a deckchair on a sunny afternoon
'Cos the pigeons woke me up before the dawn

Lying on the grass in the evening
I'd count the jumbo jets up in the sky
Flying into Heathrow all those many years ago
I can't believe how fast the years go by

I can see my old man in his shirt sleeves
Smoking on a hand rolled cigarette
My Mother on the garden swing smiling like she did
While a heart shaped smoke ring floats above her head
