Charlotte Swarbrick - Little Love

I wrote this song back in 2014
But back then I wasn't brave enough to play it to anyone
But I can't make an album called This Is Me
Without actually being honest about who I am

Growing up I never went astray
I'd work hard at school, I'd laugh and I'd play
And everyone who saw me would smile at me and say
If that girl keeps it up she's gonna go a long way
But I've got a feeling that if they knew what I know now
They'd shake their heads in disappointment
Turn their backs and walk away
They'd say how can a normal little girl like that
Grow up to be someone who's gay

Now when they say it like that, it makes it sound like I need to apologise
But there's no way I'm doing that cos it just wouldn't be right
And I know to some people it would come as a surprise
And I know that they'd want to know the reasons why
But there's no explanation, it's just who I am inside
But I know if I said that, they just wouldn't be satisfied
They'd hound me for an answer until I was crying
Just wish they'd open their minds and realise

That girl/boy, boy/girl
Girl/girl, boy/boy
Girl who's a boy
Boy who's a girl
We're all just people in one big world so

Let a little love go round, it never hurt nobody
I'm not gonna change myself and be someone that's not me
I won't apologise for being who I am
So let a little love go round, it never hurt nobody

It's kind of like having two different personalities
One that's fake and one who is me
And it's hard to feel accepted socially
When you're made to follow their idea of normality
But there's this massive part of me that just wants to scream
And say open your minds and you will see

That girl/boy, boy/girl
Girl/girl, boy/boy
Girl who's a boy
Boy who's a girl
We're all just people in one big world so

Let a little love go round, it never hurt nobody
I'm not gonna change myself and be someone that's not me
I won't apologise for being who I am
So let a little love go round, it never hurt nobody

I don't understand why there is so much hate
Why are you a target if you're not straight
In seventy-seven countries it's a crime to be gay
You could be beaten up or killed or locked away
Why should we be made criminals of
Convicted just because of who we love
If God doesn't like gays then why did he make me
So open up your minds and agree

That girl/boy, boy/girl
Girl/girl, boy/boy
Girl who's a boy
Boy who's a girl
We're all just people in one big world so

Let a little love go round, it never hurt nobody
I'm not gonna change myself and be someone that's not me
I won't apologise for being who I am
So let a little love go round, it never hurt nobody

When you see two girls hand in hand on the street
Do you think it's love or do you think it's obscene
When you see two boys hand in hand on the street
Do you think it's love or do you think it's obscene

Seriously people, please get a grip
I'm tired and I'm not taking anymore shit
This is me, who I am, yeah you better believe it
And if you don't like it you can take it or leave it
But don't worry mum, I'm still the kid you'd have picked
It just so happens that I don't like dick
I know you'll need some time but please try to be quick
Cos this world that we're living in just makes me sick
Hate crimes 'gainst the - quote - gay kinds
Shooting up a nightclub just to waste some time
Feel confined, undermined and left behind
We need to rewind and remind the meaning of kindness
So let's unify, put differences aside
Think how much better the world would be if we all tried
Stick your middle finger up and stand up for pride
It's time the whole damn world realised

That girl/boy, boy/girl
Girl/girl, boy/boy
Girl who's a boy
Boy who's a girl
We're all just people in one big world so

Let a little love go round, it never hurt nobody
I'm not gonna change myself and be someone that's not me
I won't apologise for being who I am
So let a little love go round, it never hurt nobody
And this is me
