The Day of the Beast - On Top Many Layers of Horror

Shipwreck of the Emmanuelle
Ghostly mist concealing the spectral rocky shore
Inept navigational methods
Led them to a cryptic island in fog
Unrest and hostilities haunting
Desperate for a beacon from something
Discovering imprisoned sheep
Huddled in fear, hunger, and dehydration

Emaciated menagerie
An image most unsettling
An offering for an obscure deity?

An act of possible mercy
Or was it descent into savagery?
Like Cain bludgeoning Abel
One sheep murdered by the captain in lunacy

Reflection of the lord of the flies beheld
Unrecognizable vision of gore
The crew terrified by his transformation
If they only knew the consequences of his crime

On Top Many Layers of horror
Burial mound where the floating dead converge
Island formed of stones and waterlogged corpses
Living offerings presented in memoriam
Severed sacrifice awakens cadaveric terror, decimate the uninvited

Upheaval of stone as they crawl from below
Slivers of bone are exposed
Leaving a trail of slime and algae
Salt and decay
Rotting but breathing
Mindless but thinking
Preventing escape of the men
Fetid and vile
Forcing and dragging
Them down to their watery graves

New spirits bound below the muddy rocks
Like the many who came before
Maritime graveyard of the souls who drowned
Hidden in mystic, malodorous fog
