Joss Stone

Joss Stone Lyrics and Profile

Born in April 1987, the Devon, England-born Joscelyn Eve Stoker - better known as Joss Stone - is a well-known soul singer, songwriter and actress. She started on her path to global stardom in 2001, aged just 13, when she appeared on a talent show hosted by BBC Television called Star for a Night. Stone won the contest, firstly smashing her audition with her rendition of Whitney Houston’s 1999 hit It’s Not Right but It’s Okay and then singing Donna Summer’s On the Radio to scoop the top prize.

Stone caught the attentions of the world with her multi-platinum debut album, The Soul Sessions, which was released in 2003 and went on to make the shortlist for the 2004 Mercury Prize. Her second album, Mind Body & Soul also went multi-platinum and included Stone’s top ranked single, You Had Me. As well as hitting the bigtime in her native UK – she became the youngest British female to nab the UK Albums Chart top spot – she also became extremely popular in the US as a result of her third album, Introducing Joss Stone, which was released in 2007.

Over the course of her career, Stone has sold over 14 million albums across the globe, making her one of the biggest selling soul singers of the 2000s. She has scooped two coveted Brit Awards, including Best British Urban Act and Best British Female, as well as one Grammy Award. She has also appeared as an actress in The Tudors and a British comedy film called Snappers.

In 2008, Stone started a legal battle to free herself from her three-album deal with record label EMI and she was back in the headlines in 2011, when she was the target of a foiled burglary and murder plot by two men in Cullompton, Devon, near her country home. The suspects were found guilty and convicted in 2013.
Stone released her latest album, entitled Water For Your Soul, by her own record label, Stone'd Records.
