Well-known US rapper and songwriter Wiz Khalifa, whose real name is Cameron Jibril Thomaz, was born in 1987 in North Dakota. He started out strongly on his road to musical stardom, releasing his first album, Show and Prove, in 2006 and then being snapped up by Warner Bros Records the following year.
One of the music industry heavyweights, Rostrum Records president, Benjy Grinberg, said that Khalifa had first caught his attention when he had contributed to a mixtape of new artists, aged just 16. He told HitQuarters: “Even though he wasn't all the way developed you could just tell that he was a diamond in the rough, and that with some polishing, guidance and backing he could become something special.”
Khalifa released his second album, Deal or No Deal, in 2009 after he had parted with Warner Bros and went on to sign with Atlantic Records following the release of the mixtape Kush and Orange Juice in 2010 as a free download. One of his biggest hits was the first single he released under his new record label, Black and Yellow
, which reached the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart.
Since that success, he has also put out the album O.N.I.F.C in 2012, Blacc Hollywood in 2014 and the tune See You Again, which was used as the soundtrack for the film Furious 7. This song reached number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Khalifa married model Amber Rose in 2013 and they had a son. However, they announced they were divorcing in 2014, due to ‘irreconcilable differences.’ Khalifa has been honoured in Pittsburg, where he attended school, as it was announced that December 12, 2012 was Wiz Khalifa Day in the city. The rapper owns a home in nearby Canonsburg.
