Shepherd's Honor - Conformity (feat. Jules Music)

I have tried very many times
To be the best man possible and always fall in line
But I fail and fail again and almost never get what's mine
The failure get so stale, but maybe it's a sign
That I need to pick up the pace
You know that I'm not the one who wants to run this race
Of mediocrity, but in this society
My work has always been the thing that gives my worth to me
And I just have to question if that's how it should be
Should there be such a thing as a stress casualty
When men and women never leave their office side
Even when they're home their work is always on their mind
Something needs to change
Maybe all our lives just need a rearrange
I'm happy to do the work if I can get out of this game
That turns people into robots who all act the same
Act the same
And dress the same
Distract the same
And stress the same
Don't you want fame
All the cash and all the cars
An all expenses paid trip through the stars
That goes there and back to Mars
Well if you want to take all that which is yours
Just follow the mandates and do all the chores
Even though it's not the thing that they hired you for
Just bend down your knee and put your face to the floor

Conformity is the norm that I see
Every day when I wake and turn on the TV
Conformity for you and me
Is the way that we're killing ourselves slowly

I walked into the class on my very first day
Didn't have much to do, and I didn't have much to say
Stood up at the front, and I spoke my name
That moment introduced me to this broken game
The teachers did their best, and they have my respect
Every single one wanted education to be stressed
But I can't really say that I ever really gained
All of that knowledge that the schooling should have contained
Learned how to stretch my wings but what in my mind still stings
Are the subjects that subjected me to unimportant things
And as I grew the waste of time would only brew and multiply
The whole way through felt like a crime
We're forced to stew while in our prime
And when we finally make it through
We're only halfway done
Only difference now?
It isn't free
It's quite a hefty sum
The game isn't just to learn
Gotta spend all you got
Half a year's wages for a broken cot
And if you would dare to complain
You should be glad that you even got a shot
To stress and fret and deal with debt
And and hope and pray that you won't regret
The scam that was this awful bet
The system cares and won't forget
The student who has dealt its wealth
But it often does, and it don't end well
For you or me
You've got to see
That help is hard to come by in a university

Conformity is the norm that I see
Every day when I wake and turn on the TV
Conformity for you and me
Is the way that we're killing ourselves slowly

There's not a thing in the world that you get for free
But for the people in charge, money grows on trees
Whose seeds are in the wallets of the students on site
Who walk around the campus all day and all night
Just trying to survive
Do whatever to get by
Making all the right choices but still asking why
All the places that were meant to help them thrive
Can only make jokes and can only promise lies
Though the world is a mess
And we're all in distress
Gotta do whatever to decompress
The stress that's always been our test
I know my world just needs a rest
I'll always try to make sure that I do my best
And remind myself and others that we're still so blessed
Just to be alive, so let's try to thrive
Doesn't gotta be on the outside, just in our minds

Conformity is the norm that I see
Every day when I wake and turn on the TV
Conformity for you and me
Is the way that we're killing ourselves slowly
