Northern Cities Shift - When Country Is Country

We rolled up to this bar in our beat up and broke down van
Had a neon sign that said tonight a live country band
They had some whitetail bucks on the wall and two for one specials all night long
I smiled at the band and said "boys lets blow the roof off this joint"

Well they rushed back to the van and grabbed there fiddle and steel guitar
Our telecasters and enough amps to rattle there mason jars
Then a man walked up to me an asked "Where's your electric drum machine?
And is your DJ running a little late"

Well excuse me but were here to play some country
And if you don't like it then you can just leave
There ain't no reason to deny it when your boots are kicking behind it
Nothing sounds better then when country is just country

Now a big record man he said "boys I think you've got it
But if there is one thing I think I can fix it
If we add a few of those clap tracks and a cheap banjo sound in the back
I bet I get all those people out there dancing"

Well excuse me but were here to play some country
And if you don't like it then you can just leave
There ain't no reason to deny it seeing all the people kicking behind it
Nothing sounds better then when country is just country

Well excuse me but were here to play some country
And if you don't like it then you can just leave
There ain't no reason to deny it when your boots are kicking behind it
Nothing sounds better then when country is just

Ya they say nothing sounds better then when country is just country
