John Mark Wood - A Song For Everyone (Unplugged)

Sign on the door said locals open mic on Friday night
I was on the road the last few days and that place was feeling right
Sat my guitar on a stool ordered a beer and looked around
This ol man came out of nowhere sized me up and looked me down

Said I can tell you ain't from Memphis but can you play a country song
Is that ol Gibson just for show or can you bend it all night long
If you gonna knock it dead in here there's some songs you need know
And if you can't handle that son it's probably best for you to go

You need a song that kinda slow something good they all will know
Then one of them early Elvis songs should get em pouring in the door
A few songs bout drinkin then one that's lots of fun
What you gonna figure out you need a song for everyone

Maybe a song about your family or one about being alone
A song from David Allen Coe will get the whole bar singin along
A little Hank or Merl or Whalen guaranteed to nail it son
Yeah the key to this ol place is having a song for everyone

Well I grabbed that ol guitar and started out with something slow
I rocked out some old school Elvis and had em pouring in the door
Sang some songs about drinkin and led some David Allen Coe
Nailed some Hank and Merl and Whalen till I couldn't sing no more

Then that ol man walked up me with a smile on his face
He said next time you're in Memphis come by here for a couple days
This place is full of people some want hope and some want fun
And the key to what we do is having a song for everyone

Maybe a song about your family or one about being alone
One from David Allen Coe will get the whole bar singin along
A little Hank or Merl or Whalen guaranteed to nail it son
Yeah the key to this ol place is having a song for everyone

Yeah the key to what we do is a song for everyone
