J. Jeffrey Messerole - Rumble Strips

It looked a lot like Montana but really it was too dark to know
Every indication indicated I was on the reservation of the crow
Driving through these midnight hours to get to where I needed to go
Eyelids getting heavy with every passing lullaby on the radio

Then this god awful shaking it brought me back to the light
And I quickly took to braking and got stopped just short of the fence line
These rumble strips woke me up and kept me alive
Rumble strips are the reason I'm coming home tonight

It's one hell of a fish tail when you lock them up at ninety miles an hour
Kicks up a dusty smoke signal off the prairie like a lookout tower
I just missed the guardrail but took out a mile marker on the side of the road
As sure as god's got sandals I was wide awake for the rest of my trip home

Then this god awful shaking it brought me back to the light
And I quickly took to braking and got stopped just short of the fence line
These rumble strips woke me up and kept me alive
Rumble strips are the reason I'm coming home tonight

I was flooded with second thoughts glancing at the duffle bag in my shotgun seat
Them waves grew stronger looking at the place where my wedding ring used to be
Some other lover was not what I needed to make things all right
So I put the band back to flesh, the wheels back to cement, and I back to my wife

Then this god awful shaking it brought me back to the light
And I quickly took to braking and got stopped just short of the fence line
These rumble strips woke me up and kept me alive
Rumble strips are the reason I'm coming home tonight
