It’s a depressing time of year, for sure. The advent of Blue Monday - and we don’t mean the classic New Order track - means though that we’ve got through the worst day the year has to throw at us. The days will get longer, the mornings lighter, and artists will start releasing some chart-toppers before long…

Until then, however, we all need a bit of musical pepping up. Thankfully, there are a wealth of tunes designed to motivate us, get us moving or just put a smile on our face. Below we run through the best four tracks that can blow away those January blues and get you ready for 2018.

”I woke up like this” - ***Flawless by Beyoncé, ft. Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

Yeah, you did. This Beyoncé song will teach you how to accept any compliment, because you'll already have given many compliments to yourself by the time it's over.

"When the sharpest words wanna cut me down, gonna send a flood, gonna drown them out, I am brave, I am proof, I am who I'm meant to be, this is me" - "This Is Me" by Keala Settle

This rousing tune is one of the best from The Greatest Showman, a musical based on the life of a circus owner. In the movie, it’s sung by a bearded lady - although you don’t need to have a beard to be inspired by these lyrics.

”We can be heroes, just for one day” - “Heroes” by David Bowie

Although it’s a song about doomed love, this song still gives you a spring in your step with a kind of “us vs them” mentality. Bowie himself is a great reminder not to be afraid of being a little different, too - let your freaky side shine through!

”So throw those curtains wide, one day like this should see me right” - “One Day Like This” by Elbow

Those lovely Manchester lads have cooked up their fair share of inspirational hits over the years, and this is one of their best. Most suited to the day after you’ve achieved something huge and impressive, whether finishing that project or making it through without crying. Well done!
